Jewish Tours of New York in Lower East Side

The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy (LESJC) was created to
showcase, through a dynamic and varied touring program, the history and culture
of the Jewish community of the Lower East Side. The LESC also serves as the communal agent
for historic neighborhood preservation by assisting community synagogues with
landmark designation, strategies for restoration, and fundraising. As the cradle of American Jewish
civilization, the Lower East Side attracts
thousands of visitors each year. Since
our inception in 1998, we have hosted 300 groups from throughout the United
States and Canada, hailing from the following organizations: day schools,
synagogues, (e.g. Youth groups, Sisterhoods, Hebrew schools, retirees, Men’s clubs,
JCC’s, Hillel, women’s organizations, historical societies, and
seminary/university programs. Our typical tour includes visits to three historic synagogues, all still with active
congregations, and each possessing unique stories told by rabbis, current
members and Conservancy trained tour guides.
We have designed our tours so that visitors from all walks of life and
affiliations (or lack of) will feel welcome and inspired by what we have to
offer.
