Attention Armchair Preservationist and Land-Marking Lovers -A NEW WALKING TOUR -CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19

  • Meet on the SE corner of Broome & Ludlow Streets New York, NY 10002 United States (map)

YOUR VOICE COUNTS: Interested in architecture, preservation, land- marking, and the Lower East Side? This NEW TOUR is definitely for you!

The LESJC and LESPI have joined forces in honor of Lower East Side History Month to provide a tour that walks the historic Lower East Side to view venerable buildings in order to determine if they are eligible to be preserved.

Your guide will be Barry Feldman, our urban historian and architectural specialist. A glossary of architectural terms, a list of criteria for land marking in NYC, plus a list of historic districts will be distributed. Tour narrative will include a history of land-marking with opportunities for questions and discussion. See how your considerations compare with experienced preservationists.

The Lower East Side Preservation Initiative (LESPI) is comprised of preservationists and local residents and who want to save what’s left of the historic architecture and streetscapes of Manhattan’s historic Lower East Side, which includes such neighborhoods as the East Village, Lower East Side below Houston St., Chinatown, Little Italy and the Bowery, extending from East 14th Street south to Fulton and Franklin Streets, and Broadway east to the East River. They are a grass roots not-for-profit organization, formed in 2007.

Tickets are $27 when purchased in advance, and will be an additional $3 PP when purchased the day of the tour. Included in the price will be the use of wireless microphones, to enable you to hear the guide better.
