Please join us for approximately 90 minutes as Susan, a Bronx native, who still calls the borough home, talks to us about its Jewish history, and what remains
The third-most densely populated county in the United States, with a land area of 42 square miles, “Da Bronx” had the largest Jewish population of all five boroughs of NYC in the mid-20th Century with more than 200 synagogues and a myriad of Jewish institutions.
It originally became home to many Jews, starting around 1840 with a Jewish settlement of German and Hungarians who peddled their wares on what is now The Grand Concourse – “The Boulevard of Dreams”. Last November, Susan provided us with a wonderful tour of the Jewish West Bronx that walked The Concourse. That highly received tour had an incredible amount of ‘pounding the pavement’. This time, we invite you to just sit back, kick up your feet and relax at home while Susan discusses the synagogues and other Jewish organizations and people who called the Bronx "home".
