Synagogues Lost to Time on the Lower East Side - A NEW TOUR - SOLD OUT

  • NE Corner of Canal & Eldridge Streets in front of the deli New York United States (map)

During the iconic period of Jewish immigration and settlement on the Lower East Side, dozens of synagogues dotted this crowded neighborhood, extending as far north as East 14th Street, and to the East River. The architectural style of these synagogues varied from modest to extravagant, and Moorish to classical. As the Jewish population diminished, some of these religious buildings closed, became private residences, or were converted into churches.

Come along with our guide, Urban Historian Barry Feldman, on a walking tour that visits extant sites of these former synagogues. Tour narrative will discuss architectural styles, the synagogues' country of origin, and their colorful personalities.

There will be a limit of 15 attendees on this tour.

In order to enable you to hear the guide while social distancing, we will be using an app for smart phones. If you have earphones for your cell, please bring them with you.

Proper Mask wearing is Mandatory. No Mask, no tour!

Tickets are $27 Adults, $25 Seniors (65+.) $24 Students (21 and under) and are an additional $3 PP if they are purchased the day of the tour, pending availability.
